  • Livecoiffure : You were elected Meilleur Ouvrier de France, could you tell us in a few words about that experience ?

Virginie Cabaret : The training is long since it lasts 3 years… The trainings are regular and I even had to go to Paris.  The first qualifying event was intense, one year, during which we had to do : Gel sculpture, blow dry haircut, male haircut with razor…. Then for the final, there are other different trials.

During the first qualifying trials, I suffered a bit, the gel wouldn’t dry anymore and at that moment I lost ground, I was really scared but one should always fight and go on !  My best memory remains the wedding hairstyle… From the top, it seems like a flower but in reality it was a key of G because I am a musician.

I used to do the hairstyle in 50 minutes the day D, I did it in only32 minutes, I was really determined !

The night of the contest, I was very tired, exhausted.  I am disappointed it is over ! When I knew I was elected Meilleur Ouvrier de France, I burst into tears.

This was very stressful and moving.  During the ceremony at the Sorbonne, when I received my medal, I was really happy, a bit euphoric, I would shift from laughter to tears, it was really a great enriching experience !

  • Livecoiffure : This year, one of the themes was the architecture of the future, what was your inspiration and how did you proceed ?

Virginie Cabaret : I was inspired by the Franco-Belgian architect Vincent Callebau who talks a lot about ecology in his works.  He makes tours and buildings rich in plants.  He integrates small farms where families have a balcony and can cultivate trees or any kind of flowers.

To create that hairstyle, I used a 3D printer and the support was made of maiz starch which is biodegradable.  The structure had the shape of a horn which represented the residence with a sphere representing the eye. The white bowl allows light to pass and that way plants species and animals can live.

Livecoiffure : Could you tell us about your hairdressing esthetics school Espace Bel Air ?

Virginie Cabaret : Situated in the Mans, the hairdressing and esthetics school Bel Air offers trainings in CAP, BP, professional diploma… Opened since 23 years, it enables students to participate to contests, MAF - Meilleurs apprentis de France (best French apprentice )- and some students even received a gold and a silver medal for the regional contest.  This enables to access to the national contest.  I run the school with Denis Bernardet, we are surrounded by the best teachers to provide our students high quality education. The teachers are able to offer the students complete and polyvalent trainings, faithful to the official program of the state examinations and also to teach them the reception, sale and management techniques.

Regarding hairdressing and esthetics, our teachers put a lot into contests and have shown for years their skills through their results. Our hairdressing teachers participate also to courses with our partners Schwarzkopf and Wella and accumulate the distinctions.

  • Livecoiffure : Could you explain to us the concept of your pedagogical salon ?

Virginie Cabaret : Our students do your hairstyles/haircuts, the teachers make the diagnosis of the client and of course we are here if they have difficulties.  We are always there, we intervene for each client with a verification role, we put the finishing touch… We offer you all the services of a professional salon (haircut, blow-dry, hair color, highlights, balayage…)  With professional products.   The advantage is that the prices of the school are quite attractive.

Livecoiffure : Any project for that year ?

Virginie Cabaret : My first objective is to be a MOF trainer to transmit my knowledge.  Sharing knowledge is essential and being a teacher is great, I love young persons, their freshness, their appetite for learning, I love sharing great moments with them !
