The appearance: cultural filter which push human beings to dress as if their natural nudity was inadmissible. « The interest for ornament distinguishes the intelligent human from the animal » wrote Théophile Gautier. It’s been centuries that the necessity of dressing turned to fashion phenomenon becoming a real industry with its advantages of economic developments and its disadvantages among them about ethics.

Talking about hair tendencies which accompany every semester the world fashion shows, leads us to a thought about ethics and fashion. If the clothes are practical to protect us from different temperatures and bad weathers, the fashion is more than cover oneself. In fact, the creative, industrial and commercial aspects are linked so it is a social and cultural element.

Fashion, dressing underline the differences of two parts of our planet. Most of the textile products are made in the Third world. Some of the materials used are one of the most polluting ! If we refer to the culture of cotton, the quantity of pesticide used represents 28% of the world quantity for 2,5 % of the cultivated lands ! The problems linked to the impact on the local environment and the health consequences on the populations involved are huge.

Other black point: the child labor. The textile industries of the Third World « use » children. For those who work all day long in textile factory, they are exposed to chemical products. Regarding the young workers of the industry of carpet or working in weaving factories, they work in horrible conditions in polluted places with wool dust which damage their lungs.
So fashion yes but with a sense of responsibilities regarding the social and environmental issues. Some of the creators already realized that and propose a development more respectful towards human and environment. The boycott of products made by children could be an impact force to fight against the child labor in textile factories…
