  • 1- Why opening a second barbershop ?
It was very difficult to receive all the clients in our first salon which became too small. Due to the increase of demands, we wanted to receive more persons. This new salon of 200m2 is in the heart of Paris, in the first district, a prime place.

2-How did you decide to move from hairdressing to barber ?
When you're a hairdresser for men, you necessarily fall in the beard ! Both combine perfectly.
Furthermore, I wanted to be a barber before being a hairdresser. When I was young, I used to see with my grandfather shaving in a traditional way, with a classic metal razor, I watched him and I was passionate about that gesture, this cracking noise of the blade on the skin…etc. I thought: “One day, I want to do that job, I want to shave men ”.
And to become a barber, you must be hairdresser for men, one cannot go without the other.

3-Is it more difficult for a woman to be respected in that field dominated by men ?
Yes, this was very difficult like in many jobs dominated by men but you must impose yourself and have a strong personality.
And particularly, you must to control, know your job perfectly to be accepted and recognized.
I grew-up in the professional field with two barbers, Jean-Louis Bourasseau and Osan Turak. You must have faith because gentlemen don't want to be shaven by a woman sometimes ! I had to be patient, to listen, to redouble my efforts to be accepted as a feminine symbol.
I have to prove them also that I can take care of a beard, I know how to shave. I was often told: “ But you don't know what it is shaving ”. A the beginning of my career, in order to immerse myself, to feel the contact of the blade on the skin, I applied foam on my legs and I shaved myself with a classic metal razor!

  • 4-How do you explain this come back to the beard and more specifically the big beard for two years ?

This is a phenomenon linked to the evolution of the society. Beard is accepted by the society in all the professions because it is presentable. But that fashion phenomenon is out of date, the big beard, that was 4, 5 years ago. Today, it has established itself in the society because men want to take care of it properly.
Now, professionals meet the expectations of the clients which wasn't the case before. We advise the clients and we help them with their decisions like in the hairdressing field. Furthermore, a long beard is a kind of metamorphosis.
It slims the face and it depends of the morphology; the hair enables some of the men to reveal their soul.

5- Which brands do you choose ?
We work with the brand Martin De Candre, Barbe N Blues, Plisson the shaving brushes, Thiers Issard for the classic metal razor, Acqua di Parma y Integrall which proposes marvelous products. Today, we work on a range “La Barbière de Paris”: shaving soap, shaving oil, all the products for the beard.

6- According to you, what are the future tendencies ?

There is a recurrent phenomenon: Every year, a movement named Movember, takes place once a year in November. It aims to combat against the prostate cancer and the male diseases. The objective is to let grow the moustache and to keep it all November long in order to raise awareness. You can also notice another phenomenon: The comeback from holidays.

Everybody let grow their beard, you can then notice this tendency during September: the long beard, Hipster, but which will slowly turn into a moustache.
