What's the impact of going to the hairdresser ?
A visit in a hairdressing salon touches our image and the idea of oneself or what we want to show to others. Indeed, a woman with a perfect hair illustrates more a self-confident person, well dressed, who takes care of herself.
On the contrary, when you look like a careless person, that means that either you need an absolute relaxation - laughter- or you're a bit weakened at a given moment. And when our image is weakened we need a visit at the hairdresser's to put some order in our head from a narcissistic point of view. But I didn't talk about hairdressing salon psychology! Taking care of oneself, having a positive image contributes to be confident.

What does mean a haircut ?
The symbolism is strong. The gesture refers to the history of the person ! Cutting your hair is the sign of a change of life would say Coco Chanel !
Cutting with ones/ a past. Today, we can also associate that gesture to a fashionista searching for a new fashion accessory.

Should one have a short haircut when one gets older ?
It is true that long hair refers to the little girl with braids to the eternal teenager or to a male perfect model… but long hair can lack of dynamism for some women; short hair is often associated to maturity, a transitional phase or to an androgynous side. anyway for the unconditional ones, a biweekly care is essential to avoid a careless aspect.
I think also that the influence of the hair collections and the communication around them push women to change regularly their hair. This wasn't the case a few years ago.

What to say to the persons who don't like going to the hairdresser ?
Indeed, the hairdressing salon is a strange place. A very private act takes place in a public place: contact with your hair !
However, few persons can touch your hair apart from your close relation. This can even be frightening. And many persons don't like to be touched by a stranger.
Any physical contact creates a good or bad sensation and in psychology hair is reported to be a sexual zone. Furthermore, we can think about the women closed to the Germans during the second world war... shaved heads weren't a coincidence !
