Livecoiffure : During three long years, you’ve been training for the contest Meilleur Ouvrier de France category Coiffure, could you tell us about your best and your worse memory in this adventure ?
Grégory Lejeune : I’ve been training differently and much more than the last time. Indeed, it is my second time. I have quite a bad memory of my last passage; I trained very hard and the days were very long at the salon. Two weeks before the ceremony, It was difficult for me to manage my stress so I failed. This time, moving in my new salon, I had a bigger team and I could dispatch my work. I've training during the day. These last months were very intense with 10 training hours a day. With my team, we would go to Paris once a month.
This was great, there was a good ambiance, we had points of view on what we were doing so we can work on different things to present something unique the day of the contest. I am a very stressed person so I had acupuncture and hypnosis and ¡ it does work ! The day of the contest, I was quite calm. No pressure ! [laughter]
I don’t really have negative memory but you can sometimes be demotivated when you are told that what you do is not good. A lot of questioning. I was deeply moved when I knew I was Meilleur Ouvrier de France. I was styling in my salon, I was deeply moved and It was difficult for me to realize what was happening since there are 3 waiting weeks before the announcement of the results.
During that period, I was doubting a lot, I was very happy of my work but I didn’t know if it was going to work or be sufficient, I even had nightmares about it ! But the day I preferred was the ceremony at the Sorbonne where I was overjoyed, surrounded by all my friends, we could really share all of that together and that was great !

Livecoiffure : This year, the hairdressing theme for couple was the architecture of the future, for that occasion, you were inspired by La maison dansante de Prague by Frank Gehry and the hôtel marqués by Riscal, how did you proceed ?
Grégory Lejeune : The hôtel marqués by Riscal was my main inspiration, all these metal ribbons, these volumes, these curves… and I thought that I could make hair ribbons, that’s it. However, the structure with the rectangles behind cubes was very impressive and looked like a block, that wasn’t really nice behind so I chose to do something a bit lighter by mixing this architecture to The maison dansante of Prague. Very splay, it represents two dancers, a woman and a man, like a minute glass.
To do the hairstyles, the architecture part was made in 3 parts : With a drawing then a plastic model I made and the whole thing printed in 3D. We then drilled holes at the basis to introduce the hair and hold it with hairpins and a crepe paper. The creation “rubans dansants de Riscal” was born.

Livecoiffure : After that reward, what are you plans for this year ?
Grégory Lejeune : We would like to gather with “my promotion friends”- the laureates MOF- to organize a small hairdressing show the next time we manage to see each other. I certainly will help for the next contest Meilleur Ouvrier de France.

Livecoiffure : You also own your own hairdressing salon Greg Création in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, could you tell us about it ?
Grégory Lejeune : Everything started in a salon I bought about 13 years ago. I had at the time 4 employees, it was good as a start. Then, 3 years and a half ago, I decided to move out.
I walked in front of an empty place, I fell in love with it. Then I ask information about it at the hôtel de ville and 9 months later, I was moving in ![laughter]. The place was better situated and the salon more spacious. My staff doubled. In Greg Création, we especially do classic hairdressing but also wig application and hair complements. These are wigs for ladies and gentlemen who are sick, with chemotherapy. The hair complement is then made with volumizer or through bonding to give an impression of hair.

    Livecoiffure : A last word ?
Grégory Lejeune : I would like to thanks Nicolas Christ and his team who received us very well. Everything was well prepared, they were great, we worked in the best conditions. Knowing him for years, I am very proud to have worked with him.
